Raccoons are a problem in both urban and rural settings.  These animals are scavengers and will gather food whenever the opportunity presents itself.  One of the best ways to keep them away from your home is to get rid of their access to a major food source your food scraps and waste.  Most people know to make sure there is no standing water around their homes to help reduce mosquito breeding grounds, but they don't secure their trash cans to keep animals out and away from their homes.  This simple step can make a huge difference in keeping your family safe.
